How To Keep Hair Moisturized All Day

If you have dry hair, you’ve probably seen it do the midday switch: soft and smooth in the morning, then frizzy or brittle by the afternoon. You’re not imagining it—hair naturally loses water throughout the day, especially if your strands have high porosity or the weather is working against you. The key isn’t piling on more products; it’s creating a routine that helps your hair hold onto what it really needs.

Here’s how to keep hair moisturized from morning to night.

Know your porosity, know your moisture needs.

Porosity is just a fancy way of describing how easily your hair absorbs and holds hydration. Knowing yours helps explain why your strands feel dry—and how to keep them balanced.

  • Low-porosity hair has a tightly closed cuticle, so hydration sits on the surface instead of sinking in. Lightweight products and humectants (like glycerin or aloe) can help pull water into the strand without weighing it down.

  • High-porosity hair (often curly, coily or chemically treated) has a more open cuticle. It soaks up hydration quickly but loses it just as fast, so richer conditioners, masks and oils tend to help.

Once you know your porosity, you can pick products that work with your hair instead of against it. Here’s a quick guide to figuring it out.

Build hydration into your wash.

Lasting hydration starts with your wash routine. A gentle, sulfate-free shampoo cleanses without stripping, while a nourishing conditioner helps your hair absorb and hold onto water. (Harsh sulfates? They can lift the cuticle, letting hydration escape.)

For medium to coarse or damaged hair, our Moisture Repair Shampoo + Conditioner is a staple: made with rice protein and jackfruit extract, this formula helps rice protein and jackfruit extract help replenish essential hydration and strengthen dry, brittle strands. If your hair is fine, reach for our Smoothing Shampoo + Conditioner instead.

Treat your hair to a deeper drink.

When your hair needs extra TLC, a mask goes deeper than your daily conditioner. By sinking further into the strand, hair masks help restore strength and softness from the inside out.

Our Moisture Mask is intensely nourishing but never heavy, enhancing hydration, smoothness, and shine for every hair type and texture. After shampooing, apply to damp hair in place of your regular conditioner. Leave it on for at least 5 minutes (or longer if you want that spa-at-home moment).

Lock it in with a leave-in.

Conditioner in the shower is step one, but a leave-in conditioner is where the real all-day protection begins. It acts as a moisture seal, smoothing the hair cuticle and giving your strands a protective buffer against frizz, dryness and daily wear. Work it into damp hair and let it do its thing, or apply it in the steam of the shower for even better absorption.

Protect against heat.

Hot tools don’t just bend your strands into shape; they literally steam the hydration out. (That sizzle? It’s water leaving your hair’s inner core.) Always make sure your hair is fully dry before reaching for a straightener or curling iron, and layer on a heat protectant first.

Our Volumizing Foam pulls double duty—a heat protectant up to 450°F and a body-builder that leaves hair looking fuller, lifted and glossy.

Seal the deal with oil.

Hair oil isn’t just for shine—it’s the final layer that locks hydration in and keeps frizz out. A few drops of our Hair Oil smoothed over dry ends can take them from crispy to silky, while also keeping splits and frays at bay.

If your hair is coarse or curly, oil is your MVP for sealing in hydration. Finer hair types? Just graze the ends so it stays weightless. Pro tip: keep a bottle in your bag for touchups when your ends start to feel dry.

Do a midday mist.

Dry air (looking at you, winter) can suck moisture from your hair fast. A light misting of water—or better yet, a rehydrating spray—helps draw hydration back into the strand for an instant refresh.

For an easy pick-me-up, spritz our Leave-in Detangling Tonic. This lightweight spray is made with chia seed extract and hydrolyzed quinoa and helps to lock in moisture, boost shine and revive your style on the spot. Follow with a touch of Hair Oil to seal it all in.

Tuck in your strands the right way.

Moisture care doesn’t have to stop when the lights go out. Swapping your cotton pillowcase for silk or satin—or wrapping your hair up in a bonnet or scarf—helps minimize friction, retain moisture and keep your strands smooth and soft while you sleep.

The Drop

Every hair type handles hydration differently, but the principle stays the same: layer it on, then seal it in. From a gentle wash to a weekly mask, leave-in, styler and oil, these steps work together to keep softness and shine going long past your morning routine. Ready to find your match?  Take our hair quiz.
